Croatia global Lovre Kalinic to join Aston Villa until 2023

Aston Villa have made their first January signing with Croatia global goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic agreeing to join the club from Gent.

The 28-year-old will join Villa from Belgian top-flight side Gent when the transfer window opens on 1 January.

The 28-year-old has become the starting goalkeeper for the Croatian national team after Daniel Subasic retired from worldwide football at the end of the World Cup.

Kalinic is set to become Villa's first-choice keeper with Norwegian Orjan Nyland failing to convince between the sticks so far this season.

Brewers Reportedly Trade Domingo Santana to Mariners
Santana was a contributor for the Brewers when they faced off against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2018 NLCS. The Harvard product had a 3.03 ERA over 19 relief appearances with Short-A Everett and Single-A Modesto.

Kalinic spent a total of 17 years with Croatian side Hadjuk Split, first joining them at the age of 10.

Kalinic was part of the Croatian squad that reached the final of the 2018 World Cup in summer, playing a key role and making numerous top saves in the group stage game against Iceland.

Kalinić (28) was confirmed today as Aston Villa's latest signing.

Dean Smith, who succeeded Steve Bruce as Villa's manager in October, told the club's official website: "We are delighted to be signing someone of Lovre's experience and quality".
