Federalist writer Bre Payton dies at 26 after sudden illness

According to her biography at The Federalist, Payton wrote stories on "subjects ranging from Kanye West to Supreme Court rulings, to 2016 and breaking news". In his tweet, he linked to a Caring Bridge page which described what had unfolded in the hours before.

A 26-year-old political journalist has died one day after she was found unconscious and barely breathing at her apartment in Southern California and placed into a medically-induced coma.

News of her hospitalization broke Friday morning.

The same post added: "After a CT scan and hours of testing, they have determined she has the H1N1 flu and possibly meningitis". The doctors are concerned that her neurological signs are not great at this point and have informed us the next 24-48 hours are going to be critical for her.

"She's been in a coma since [she was admitted to the hospital] and really needs a miracle right now", Murtaugh posted on Twitter. Please, if you're religious at all, send prayers this way. "We really need them".

Bre Payton, a conservative writer at The Federalist and guest on Fox News, died at the age of 26 on December 28, according to reports. "It is with a heavy heart that I type this".

"Bre has passed", publisher Ben Domenech tweeted.

Defectors, most of whom risked their lives to flee poverty and political oppression, are a source of shame for North Korea. South Korean police are investigating the incident, but have not said who they believe is behind the attack.

According to The Federalist's obituary, Payton was a graduate of the Western Christian High School Private Satellite Program and earned a degree in journalism from Patrick Henry College in 2015.

Payton recently appeared as a guest on Fox's "Your World with Neil Cavuto" and "Trish Regan Primetime". On Wednesday she'd asked her followers to tune in to see her on TV.

The next morning, Murtaugh found her unconscious.

Others who worked with or knew Payton expressed their shock at her sudden death.

Meghan McCain also tweeted her condolences, saying that she and her husband, Ben Domenech, are "absolutely gutted and horrified by this news". "Our prayers for @Bre_payton and her family". We are less without her - in every possible way. John McCain, called Payton "a wonderful, fearless, vibrant, intelligent young woman". The family is asking for prayers and privacy at this time, the Federalist said.

"I am asking you all to pray this morning for our own @Bre_payton who is battling a frightful and sudden medical condition", he wrote on Twitter.
