A military court in the Gaza Strip has sentenced six Palestinians to death over charges of spying for Israel, Palestinian media reported on Monday.

In total 14 people were sentenced for "collaborating with the occupation", with six sentenced to be hanged and the rest sentenced to hard labour, the interior ministry in Gaza said.

It was unclear when the court's verdict was made, but officials from the Hamas-run Interior Ministry and the Military Judiciary Corporation made the announcement at a news conference held in Gaza on Monday.

In May, at least six members of the Palestinian Islamic resistance movement, Hamas, were killed when the device apparently exploded after detection near Dayr al-Balah in central Gaza.

The woman, named only as Amal, was sentenced in absentia and is alleged to have encouraged her nephew in Gaza to collaborate with Israeli intelligence.

The execution of the death sentences in Gaza takes place in spite of legal disputes over the matter.

Faqha was one of the leaders of Hamas' armed wing, Ezzeddine al-Qassam, and was assassinated in in the Gaza Strip in late March 2017.

In addition, those who are accused of providing information or documents that may undermine either the group's military activity or security facilities will also be sentenced to death.

Rights groups accuse Hamas of killing dozens of other suspected collaborators extra-judicially, especially during the three wars it has waged with Israel.
