Armed police restrain a man inside the grounds of the Houses of Parliament in London Britain

London's Metropolitan Police did not immediately respond to a request for information about the incident, while parliamentary authorities said police were handling it.

A man is detained by armed police inside the Parliamentary Estate after a security incident at the Houses of Parliament in central London on December 11, 2018.

London police said the man was arrested on suspicion of trespassing at a protected site.

Security in the area has been heightened since it was the scene of a terrorist atrocity in March 2017 when Khalid Masood murdered the unarmed police officer Keith Palmer.

The man, who has not been identified, was led away from the scene by police.

About a dozen officers swarmed around the suspect as he was held against a fence inside the Carriage Gates on Tuesday.

A man is being held by armed police officers after it is believed he broke into the grounds of Parliament in Westminster.

In August, a man was arrested after driving a vehicle into pedestrians and cyclists before ramming into barriers outside the parliament building in what police said appeared to be a terrorism attack.

Witnesses described seeing a Taser being deployed and a man pinned to the ground. "Inquiries into the circumstances continue".
