Earlier that day, on December 4, William and Kate hosted a Christmas party at Kensington Palace for families and children of deployed RAF personnel.

The proud parents chatted happily about their children, with William telling pilots: 'I told George this morning we were going to see the pilots today, and he said "If you see a helicopter can you take a picture?"'

"As someone whose husband has served, I know how hard it feels when a loved one leaves to do the job they trained for", Duchess Kate said at the event (via People).

During the brief visit to RAF Akrotiri on the southern coast of Cyprus, William and Kate met with serving personnel, families living on the base and members of the local community.

As the gifts were handed out in the Sergeant's mess, Kate turned to some RAF personnel that included Squadron Leader Sarah Waghorn and others and joked about delivering the mail.

William began the visit by thanking the Armed Forces deployed overseas on behalf of the nation.

"William said he'd remember Harry's name and mention him to his dad when he saw him in Cyprus".

The British military base in Cyprus is now used for both reconnaissance and bombing missions against ISIS in Syria and Iraq.

Her husband said: 'We see our main function as giving my daughter and her husband peace of mind.

Reports say at least 19 people were also hurt, but Al Jazeera could not immediately verify the number of injuries. Videos posted on Twitter, purportedly from Chabahar, showed thick smoke rising from the area.
