May's Brexit deal is best, says Rudd

"I believe that if (Mrs May's) response is "we've lost but we will do this all over again", it will become a leadership issue", he was quoted as saying. Hopefully they will have substantive talks, we have lots of ideas of the sorts of things they could do to improve were we are now.

According to The Sunday Times newspaper, the cabinet ministers expect May to announce later on Sunday that she will head to Brussels to try to agree with the European Union officials on better Brexit conditions for the United Kingdom. The second option would ask voters to choose between leaving the European Union and remaining in it, but with a supplementary question if the Leave camp wins - would they prefer the existing deal or a Brexit on WTO terms?

But what is Norway-plus, would MPs back it and would it truly deliver on the promises made in the Brexit referendum?

"If it (May's plan) doesn't get through anything could happen: people's vote, Norway plus, any of these options could come forward", Rudd told BBC radio on Saturday.

Amber Rudd has suggested that the United Kingdom could seek an alternative plan if Theresa May's Brexit proposal is rejected by MPs in their "meaningful vote".

Both sides also strongly object to a "backstop" provision in the Brexit agreement that would keep Britain in a customs union with the EU in order to guarantee an open border between EU member Ireland and the U.K.'s Northern Ireland.

Ms Rudd said she hoped the Government would "regroup" and "hold stable, hold firm" in the aftermath of a defeat.

"I think it will get through but I know it's going to be hard, because of people are still declaring against it".

She added: "The point about me discussing other alternatives is to remind people that it is all very well saying, 'I don't like this about the agreement or I don't like that about the agreement'".

The dogs, however, are now staying on the property, with Gaylord's family making regular trips to make sure they're cared for. He was wagging his tail as if to tell me: "I know you from around here, I think you're pretty ok"'.

Labour, the Liberal Democrats, the DUP, and dozens of Conservative MPs have said they can not support the deal, meaning it is unlikely to pass. For all the people in Northern Ireland, this means continuing the progress over the past two decades under the Belfast Agreement, supporting our business community to thrive, ensuring a good deal for our agricultural and fishing industries and providing a safe, secure and prosperous society for future generations.

Brussels' stubbornness only compiles potential misery on the Mrs May, who has around 100 of her own MPs preparing to reject the Prime Minister's deal, many of whom have suggested the backstop is unacceptable and must be renegotiated.

"The withdrawal agreement we have will deliver the stability that we want, that our businesses need, the investment that we want". I am absolutely convinced.

Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, the PM said a rejection of her proposals would mean "grave uncertainty" for the UK.

And in a warning to colleagues mulling a challenge for the top job, she said: "We are in hard times at the moment to add another layer of difficulty by having those sort of conversations would be a real mistake and would not be in the national interest".

"Nobody knows what happens next and that chaos needs to be avoided".

Mrs May is due to attend the EU Council in the Belgian capital on Thursday, but aides have warned her that if she goes early without putting the deal to MPs, the EU will not take her seriously.

Labour has vowed to call a motion of no confidence in the government if the deal is rejected and, if backed by a majority of MPs, this could force a general election.

"If we go into government straight away we would start negotiating straight away".
