MLB Rumors: Harper, Machado not interested in Phillies?

The good news is that that the Yankees don't appear ready to break the bank for either player, meaning the money from the Phillies might be enough to lure them to Philadelphia. According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Harper and Machado aren't warming up to the idea of signing with Philadelphia.

The former Washington Nationals right-fielder has been courted by the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Philadelphia Phillies, the Chicago White Sox, and the Nationals among others.

The pursuits of Bryce Harper and Manny Machado have reached an impasse during the holiday season.

Assuming the report is true, it sounds like the Phillies will indeed have to spend "stupid money" to land either player, as it is unlikely either will be taking a discount to join the Phillies.

However, according to the MLB Insider, the presence of the Dodgers and the Yankees make the choice hard for the two players as they are the two teams that can offer them an immediate chance to compete for titles.

MLB Rumors: Harper, Machado not interested in Phillies?

Harper was a noted Yankee fan as a youth, and as one of the biggest stars in the game, he would be a natural fit in the bright lights of the Big Apple.

Sherman claims both players are not too enamored by a chance to move to Philadelphia and prefer NY. The New York Yankees have shown little interest in the star outfielder, but have met with Machado who reportedly will make his decision some time after the New Year.

Though Scott Boras would prefer otherwise, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has stated on record that his club did not see Harper as a realistic acquisition this winter, despite the long-running rumors linking the two parties.

"But the other choice, particularly for Harper, is fascinating". The Sox also have the payroll flexibility to add either Harper or Machado and offer a solid contract.

However, the Harper saga is much more complicated than Machado, who only has three major teams to choose from.
