As teased earlier, HMD Global unveiled the all-new Nokia 8 (a.k.a Nokia 8.1) at an event held in Dubai. It was announced that the handset will be available from December 7 onward. Surprisingly, the event was devoted exclusively to Nokia 8.1 as no mention of the duo of Nokia 3.1 Plus and 5.1 Plus was made during the event.

Nokia 8.1 will go on sale starting mid-December in the European and Middle Eastern markets. The phones uses Zeiss optics for its lenses and selfies are taken care by an 8MP sensor up front. The Nokia 8.1's display also comes with a 96-percent NTSC color gamut, DCI-P3 color gamut, HDR video playback, 1500:1 contrast ratio and 500nits of brightness. It features a single speaker design, and also comes with a smart amp, 2 mics, and Nokia Ozo surround capture.

As per the Nokia X7 of China, Nokia 8.1 will run on Android 8.1 Oreo powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC. Coming to the pricing, the new Nokia 8.1 will be on sale starting mid-December for Euro 399 (approx United States dollars 450 / INR 31,900).

The phone, which lines up exactly with a recent leak, also has a pair of cameras on the back, with both a 12MP main lens with optical image stabilization and a 13MP depth sensor.

In the camera department, Nokia 8.1 will sport a primary 12-megapixel sensor, which offers 1.4-micron pixels, dual-pixel autofocus, f/1.8 aperture, and OIS. As with all Nokia smartphones in the Android One programme, you'll get more battery and storage space out of the box thanks to a carefully curated set of pre-loaded apps. Theres 64GB of eMMC storage, expandable via microSD. Plus, there's a 20MP camera on the front. The dual rear camera setup will help create portrait shots featuring a bokeh effect, the company said.

The Nokia 8.1 will be offered in three colours - Red, Silver and Blue.

Connectivity options on the Nokia 8.1 include 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.0, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a USB Type-C port.

The company, although headquartered in Boston, has more than 90 locations in 50 countries. LinkedIn (No. 6), Lululemon (No. 9) and Southwest Airlines (No. 10) completed the top 10.
