"Due to the threat, the office has been evacuated", Stelter tweeted shortly after 10:30 p.m.

"There has been a bomb threat phoned into the CNN offices in NY", tweeted the official CNN public relations account. Employees have been evacuated and the NYPD is investigating.

The NYPD tweeted Thursday night that West 58th Street between 8th and 9th Avenue was closed due to "a police investigation".

The caller said five bombs had been planted in the building.

Police tweeted that 25 Columbus Circle was evacuated, and that personnel swept the building and decided it was safe.

Security officers evacuated the building as a precaution and called police.

In October, CNN's NY headquarters was evacuated after a package containing a crude pipe bomb, which was addressed to ex-Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) chief John Brennan, was found. It is unclear whether the threat was directed at CNN or another location close by.

That package was addressed to former CIA Director John Brennan, who was a contributor to the network for a time.
