As the opening date for the show in Detroit approaches, Subaru went ahead and released the first official image of the auto this week, camo-off, showing the model's front grille, with the company's logo at the center and the S209 name to the left, red and white.

The automaker has now teased a single image of the WRX STI S209 that has been rumored and promises to debut the vehicle at the 2019 North American International Auto Show.

At the auto show in Tokyo, which will begin on 11 January, the company Subaru plans to present two concept vehicle. Not only does it have special badging, but a red accent line hints at its sporty intentions.

In the US, the current car's EJ25 turbo flat-four engine has been making roughly the same amount of power for a long time now, but in Japan, the S208 from previous year made do with a newer 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder making more power than our 2.5-liter. Although Subaru hasn't announced details, it's likely the S209 is a limited-edition model like its predecessors. Back in 2011, the S206 got a production run of 300 units; the S207 (400 units) and S208 (450 units) that followed were also limited editions.

Those "S" models were only available in Japan, but it looks like Subaru will finally bring the series stateside.

"Something special from Subaru Tecnica International is coming to America for the first time ever".
