President Trump on Saturday said that White House Chief of Staff John Kelly will leave his position at the end of the year - after swirling rumors that Kelly's 17 month-long tenure in the Trump administration was nearing its end. It is true that there is little chemistry remaining between the two men, the people said - even though Trump only months ago asked Kelly to stay on through 2020, and the general agreed. The former Commander of the United States Southern Command who entered the Trump administrations as the new president's first Secretary of Homeland Security has never fit in to White House culture, nor was he able to control it properly.

CNN on Friday reported that Kelly was expected to announce his departure in the coming days. "It's not his strength", Trump said. He replaced Reince Priebus, who had held the job for six months. He is supported by Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, the president's son-in-law and daughter, who both serve as senior West Wing advisers and who, according to several officials, are trying to expand their influence internally and in the re-election campaign. Vanity Fair reported in 2017 Kelly's discipline put a strain on his relationship with Trump and cited an unnamed source who said Trump and Kelly were "fighting a lot". It's not clear if the downturn in his relationship with the president was a direct result of his participation in the investigation - though rumors of tensions between the two have persisted for almost a year. But each time the two have decided to make amends, even as Kelly's influence has waned.

But those efforts also miffed the president and some of his most influential outside allies, who had grown accustomed to unimpeded access.

Arsenal to speak to players involved in 'hippy crack' controversy
Footage of Arsenal players inhaling nitrous oxide, more commonly known as "balloons" or "happy crack", emerged last night. The incident is reported to have taken place in August, before the start of Arsenal's season.

Kelly, too, has made no secret of the trials of his job and has often joked about how working for Trump was harder than anything he'd done before, including on the battlefield.
