United States arrests 32 at San Diego border protest

Activists are arrested as they demonstrate against US migration policies near the US-Mexico border fence.

The gathering was put together by the Quaker organization American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) who held a press conference at Border Field State Park in San Diego.

U.S. Border Patrol agents have handcuffed about a dozen people participating in a demonstration organized by a Quaker group at the U.S. -Mexico border, calling for the end of the detention and deportation of immigrants and the militarization of the border.

Singing and praying, religious leaders moved forward in lines of four to six, some wearing t-shirts reading "Love knows no borders".

US Border Patrol spokesman Theron Francisco said 31 people were arrested by Federal Protective Services for trespassing and one was arrested by Border Patrol for assaulting an agent.

Agents with the U.S. Border Patrol seized 83 pounds of methamphetamine after encountering two subjects with large backpacks east of the Sumas Port of Entry on Thursday night.

The arrests marked the second confrontation with USA federal agents since the migrant caravan reached Tijuana.
