Coach Steve Kerr confirmed Friday that Cousins would be spending time with the team's G League affiliate in Santa Cruz.

The Golden State Warriors announced on Monday that Cousins has been assigned to their G League team, the Santa Cruz Warriors.

Cousins will participate in 5-on-5 scrimmages, then return to Oakland for the Warriors' game against the Timberwolves.

Cousins hasn't played since last January, when the catastrophic tendon injury prematurely ended his eighth National Basketball Association season while playing for the Pelicans.

"He needs more intense and focused practice time", Kerr said, adding that the team's goal is to give Cousins whatever he needs to be confident and comfortable when he's finally ready for National Basketball Association game action.

Golden State Warriors center DeMarcus Cousins has been rehabbing a torn Achilles since January.

Two weeks ago, the Mercury News reported that Cousins was targeting a return sometime after Christmas. Cousins signed a one-year contract with the Warriors in July.
