Sixty-nine percent of Americans now say they're anxious about global warming, more than ever before.

The poll, which was conducted previous year, found that around 73 percent of Americans believed that global warming was happening, an increase of 10 percentage points since 2015. Roughly half think they'll personally be hurt by global warming, but even more think that others will bear the brunt of the damage - especially future generations and the poor.

An ongoing survey conducted jointly by the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication and the George Mason University Center for Climate Change Communication saw some telling spikes in the most recent update.

"Americans have, unfortunately, had far more experience with what climate change looks like", Anthony Leiserowitz, a researcher who worked on the study, told NPR.

A record number of Americans now grasp that climate change is happening and that it poses a present danger. It's no wonder that in the same year span the number of people "worried" by climate change rose from 61 percent to 69 percent.

This survey focused its questions on respondents' emotions toward global warming in addition to simple knowledge of the issue.

The survey found that "party identification and acceptance of climate change are the main correlates of whether or not people are willing to pay, with Democrats being consistently more inclined to pay a fee".

"But Americans increasingly understand that global warming is here and now and are growing concerned about the threat to themselves, their communities and the nation".

Israeli jets strike northern Gaza targets following border flare-ups
The target of the strike was said to be a Hamas building in the Beit Lahia area of northern Gaza, according to Palestinian media. An informal truce between Hamas and Israel had brought relative calm to the border in recent weeks.

Climate change activists have anxious that many people viewed global warming as a future problem, not a current one, with impacts mostly felt in far corners of the globe, not close to home.

A majority of 57 percent would support a fee of no more than $1 a month on their electric bill to support efforts to reduce climate change.

She said that in the regional context, South African interior temperatures were already about 2°C higher than a century ago and were rising at "twice the global rate of temperature increase".

Leiserowitz said he thinks the survey also shows the impact of media coverage on public impressions of climate change. Nearly half, 44 percent, would support a carbon tax to reduce new emissions of greenhouse gases. That same poll also asked if people supported a carbon tax and found roughly two-thirds did if it was used to restore the natural world.

Hayhoe's seminar will delve deep into the psychological, societal, political and economic causes that have long dominated the conversation surrounding climate change.

In one, an global panel warned of dire consequences if temperatures increase more than 1.5 degrees Celsius.

On Tuesday, White House Press Secretary dismissed statements made Monday by Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez about climate change, which fact-checkers have said were hyperbolic.

Still, places with high energy production have a lower percentage of people that believe climate change is real.
