Actor Craig McLachlan has been charged with a series of sex offences, including indecent assault.

He is to appear at Melbourne magistrates' court in February 8.

He faced allegations of misconduct by fellow cast members while playing the lead role of transvestite Dr Frank-N-Furter in the Rocky Horror Show in 2014.

He was accused past year when fellow Rocky Horror star Christie Whelan-Browne, who played the character of Janet, made allegations of sexual misconduct. There was a bed sheet so that the audience could not see what was happening.

However, it has not been confirmed whether the charges relate to the Rocky Horror Shows accusations.

Another actress Erika Heynatz alleged that she was sitting on a couch in the green room of Melbourne's Comedy Theatre when McLachlan walked over and "straddled me on the couch, knee either side and started kissing my neck".

Three actresses claimed they were abused or assaulted by him during the production.

McLachlan has strenuously denied all of the allegations against him and previously launched his own legal suit against his accusers.

McLachlan is seeking $6.5 million in special damages, and his defamation hearing is set down for four weeks from February 4.
