While Pollock certainly offers the Dodgers a strong bat with a good batting average, his signing could all but end the team's big spending in free agency this off-season.

The Dodgers needed to add an outfielder after parting ways with Matt Kemp and Yasiel Puig. But whether Pollock is the player who can get the Dodgers over the hump and make them world champions remains to be seen.

Pollock figures to play center field, with manager Dave Roberts using a platoon of Cody Bellinger, Chris Taylor, Enrique Hernandez, Joc Pederson, Andrew Toles and possibly top prospect Alex Verdugo in the corners.

By signing Pollock to a value that exceeds $50 million, the Dodgers will additionally lose a draft pick and $500,000 in global signing money.

One wonders if the Phillies would still choose to sign McCutchen to that dollar figure if they could have a mulligan. The total value of the deal is $55 million and has a player option for a fifth year at $10 million, with a $5 million buyout, sources told ESPN's Buster Olney.
