And there may never have been more money than in this case.

They married in 1993 and a year later drove across the country to Seattle, where Jeff founded Amazon. And while ending a marriage is undoubtedly an unhappy experience for their family, Twitter users started making Amazon-themed jokes about the couple's end. The Bezos' reportedly own at least five houses around the country in Medina, Wash., Beverly Hills, Van Horn, Texas, Washington D.C., and Manhattan. They are the parents of four children: three sons, and a daughter adopted from China. Bezos's fortune has soared to more than $160bn, thanks to his stake in Amazon.

Amazon didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. In it, they write that they intend to remain friends and would marry each other again even if they knew ahead of time that it wouldn't last forever. However, affairs in his private life are seemingly not going so well.

"Then Lauren was hired to work on one of Bezos" projects, "Blue Origin', a space launch company, as a helicopter pilot".

The billionaire would most likely need to sell some of those shares in Amazon to pay for the settlement, which would see his control of the company reduced.

Jeff Bezos' tremendous wealth has magnified the focus on him, although his divorce seems unlikely to enthrall the public like high-profile breakups involving movie stars such as Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

He also owns The Washington Post, which has been a target of criticism from US President Donald Trump.

Bezos, who is estimated to have a net worth of $137 billion according to Fox News, tweeted the following statement in a screencap.

The Bezos Wednesday in 1993 a year after meeting at a NY hedge fund company MacKenzie Tuttle, now 48, worked at as a research assistant, The Washington Post reported. "She had told Patrick that she has been recently seeing Jeff Bezos". She wrote her first novel when she was six years old, but a flood destroyed the manuscript, according to Bezos' author bio at Amazon.

However, much of the family fortune is bound up in Amazon stock, with Bezos still integral to the running of the company.
