Barty had given the host nation the flawless start with a 6-3 6-4 victory over dual grand slam champion Muguruza.

Germany and Australia now both have two wins from two in Group A and will meet each other on Friday. She's a really good mover, but also she's hitting the balls good, flat.

The deciding mixed doubles saw the Spaniards win the first set in the abbreviated tie-break, but Australia won the next two in similar fashion to prevail 3-4 (3/5), 5-4 (5/0), 4-3 (5/3).

The pair traded service breaks early in the third set, but Zverev gained a second break for a 4-2 lead when the Frenchman double faulted and that sealed Pouille's fate.

Despite some decent form to start the year, Ferrer said he had no intention of going back on his decision to retire during this year.

"I am 100 percent I will finish my career in Madrid", Ferrer said.

I'm happy to be back, I'm happy to be in Perth and playing inside this handsome arena.

"I'm very happy today. It's for that my ranking is not there".

Expectations are building around Barty after her strong start to the summer.

The world No.15 did not drop one service game against Muguruza and produced 15 winners and six aces to claim the first set.

The 22-year-old achieved the only other break of the match in the seventh game of the second set, closing out the win in 74 minutes.

Kanye West Won't Perform at Coachella for This Reason
Goldenvoice , the organization that puts on Coachella , apparently were unwilling to make a special exception for Kanye . And, though the lineup for the California festival has yet to be officially announced, the rumor seemed solid.

Known as Sascha to friends and family including Kerber, Zverev faced his compatriot's knowing, good-naturedly annoyed smirk upon seeing her at the end of a hallway.

"I didn't really give myself a chance in a lot of her service games, but when I did, I made it count".

But she knows she will need to lift her game even further if she is to get past Kerber.

It continues a good run for Barty who opened with a straight sets victory over Frenchwoman Alize Cornet on Saturday.

"I didn't make enough returns or put enough pressure on her but in saying that she also served particularly served particularly well". I took a little bit of time to get used to that but once I got a look at a few second serves I was able to get my eye in.

"I'm just trying to find my game, my rhythm and trying new things on court too".

Kerber has also beaten both Cornet and Muguruza in the past week, but dropped a set to each.

Wily veteran Ferrer had earlier levelled the tie with a gritty straight sets win against Ebden, Barty putting the host nation ahead 1-0 after beating Muguruza.

Zverev had a match point during the second set tie-break, while it wasn't until his sixth set point that Pouille levelled the match. Boris Becker and Anke Huber last claimed the championships for the Germans in 1995.

The victor of Group A will most likely face the defending champions Roger Federer and Belinda Bencic of Switzerland in the final.
