Another blood pressure medication recalled over carcinogen concerns

The drugs, which are to treat high blood pressure and heart failure, are being recalled after concerns that they may cause cancer-causing ingredients surfaced.

An important recall concerning blood pressure medication was released by the FDA on Wednesday.

The impurity N-Nitrosodiethylamine (NDEA) was detected in quantities above the acceptable limit in certain tablets containing valsartan, the FDA said.

The medication is manufactured by Aurobindo Pharma USA, Inc.

The products are packaged in bottles and can be identified by checking the product name, manufacturer details and batch or lot number on the bottle containing these products.

Drugs affected by the recall have expiration dates between May 2019 and March 2021.

The Food and Drug Administration urged patients taking these medications to continue taking their medication, as the risk may be higher if the treatment is stopped immediately without any alternative treatment. However, patients should consult with their pharmacist or physician who can advise them on alternative treatments.
