Apple might launch new iPads and iPod Touch soon

"The switch to Face ID, which integrated TrueDepth into the tablets' bezel, allowed Apple to lower the chassis size of the 12.9" model whilst increasing screen real estate on the 11" device. Developer Steve Troughton Smith has discovered references to new iPads and also a new iPod.

It is stated that none of these four iPads come with Apple's Face ID technology, which might mean that they will still retain the company's older Touch ID fingerprint sensor technology. Having Touch ID means the home button would remain, and that, in turn, means thicker bezels. As a result of this design decision, they'll likely be positioned in Apple's lineup as lower-end, entry-level devices.

This code also references the new iPod touch.

On the other hand, the iPod reference might bring a smile on people's faces, since no one was expecting that Apple would remember the iPod Touch and bring an upgrade to it. It won't even have Touch ID.

The news, which comes as a spotlight grows on Beijing's attempts to revive stalling growth, sent Apple shares tumbling in after-hours trade, hammered Asian suppliers and triggered a broader selloff in global markets. There have been rumors of a newer iPad mini with faster specs for quite some time now, so this doesn't seem much of a stretch. The latter makes sense, as the range is long overdue an update.

As for the iPod Touch, it's been four years since Apple launched a new model - it could be one way the company is looking to make up for slowing sales of the iPhone. A report last week found running ioS 12 had recently received certification from the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).
