'Aquaman' now has the biggest box office of the DCEU movies

Per Entertainment Weekly, DC and WB's Aquaman movie has reached a significant milestone for the DCEU.

Now overseas sales account for 75 percent of the movie's gross, however, its domestic pull alone still sits behind the other DCEU films. It should at least pass The Dark Knight ($1.005B) and still has a shot at topping Rises as the highest-grossing DC movie ever released.

Given the difficulties the DCEU has faced, Warner Bros.is sure to be ecstatic with Aquaman's performance, and it may well encourage the studio to give the green light to some of the many, many DC projects in various stages of development. David Ayer's Suicide Squad is the fourth-highest grossing film, while Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman comes in third. Also remember that Justice League, the DCEU's Avengers-style super mash-up, and the first time that Aquaman's hero bellowed "my man!", only made $657 million total back in 2017. But at just under $900 million, it still has a ways to go until it becomes the most successful DC Comics-based movie in the world. Directed by James Wan, the film has been an instant favorite across audiences, particularly for its stunning visual effects.

McIlwain, to his credit, pointed out the crowded field and the flawed selection process of the Academy.

"I'm with you, James", Mcllwain responded. It was a complete shock to everyone that we are not in the final 10 films that will be presenting at the Academy VFX Bake-off. In fact, if you only look at worldwide popularity, not domestic, Aquaman is the biggest DC Universe movie - not just the Extended Universe - so even more popular than The Dark Knight overseas.
