Matt Nagy named Chuck Pagano the Bears new defensive coordinator Friday night. Pagano guided the Colts to three consecutive postseason appearances, culminating in a trip to the 2014 AFC championship game, prior to going 20-28 over his last three seasons, leading to his firing. The secondary coach of John Harbaugh's initial staff with the Ravens, Pagano was promoted to coordinator in 2011 and led a defense that ranked third in both points and yards allowed.

The Bears have been searching for a replacement since Vic Fangio on Wednesday accepted a promotion to become the Broncos' head coach.

The Bears ranked No. 1 in the National Football League in takeaways (36), interceptions (27), interception returns for touchdowns (five), fewest rushing touchdowns (five), lowest passer rating (72.9) and fewest total plays allowed of 20-plus yards (46) in 2018. This time, Nagy had to go outside the organization and he found an experienced, well-respected coach to run his defense.

Pagano coached the Colts from 2012-17, compiling a 53-43 regular-season record and 3-3 in the playoffs.

Wilder-Fury Rematch Deal Being Sorted Out, Says Frank Warren
He [Eddie Hearn] said he wanted the fight for Joshua with Wilder past year when there was $80m on the table, but it didn't happen. But either of those options seem unlikely for now with Joshua's next option looking to be unsafe Londoner Dillian Whyte.

In 2007, Pagano was the defensive coordinator for the University of North Carolina.

Pagano took a year off from coaching in 2018, but spent the previous six seasons with the Colts.

Filling the shoes of Fangio will be no small task. Before that he served as defensive backs coach for the Ravens, Raiders and Browns. But Pagano's defenses consistently were an issue, as was his rocky relationship with former GM Ryan Grigson.
