Wednesday will be Bruce's 10th managerial post of a journeyman career that has also seen him take charge of Sheffield United, Huddersfield Town, Wigan Athletic (twice), Crystal Palace, Birmingham City, Sunderland, Hull City and Villa.

Luton Town's FA Cup third round opponents Sheffield Wednesday have appointed Steve Bruce as their new manager.

The vastly-experienced Bruce had been Wednesday's top target to succeed Jos Luhukay following the Dutchman's sacking last month after just under a year in charge at Hillsborough.

Luhukay was sacked by Sheffield Wednesday in December after less than a year in charge.

"Agnew will take a caretaker manager role alongside Clemence, while Lee Bullen remains as part of the senior coaching set-up".

He takes over a club now sitting 16th in the Championship, 10 points above the relegation zone after a disappointing start to the campaign.

Agnew and Clemence, who worked with Bruce at his previous club Aston Villa, were in the stands for the recent victories against Preston and Middlesbrough.

Bruce, who was sacked by Aston Villa back in October, is unable to start work immediately as he needs an operation on his knee and needs time to recover after surgery.
