The Spanish midfielder could make his debut this weekend against Marseille

The Spanish midfielder joins the Ligue 1 side for a fee believed to be between eight and ten million euros.

With Cesc Fabregas' move to AS Monaco (finally) being confirmed on Friday evening, it's expected that Chelsea's pursuit of a replacement will accelerate over the weekend.

The Spaniard has now completed the move to Monaco, signing a three-and-a-half year deal.

He will also now be playing under his former team-mate and fellow former Arsenal fan-favourite Thierry Henry.

"It is a great pleasure to join Monaco, it is a new project for me".

City Works To Stem Worst Measles Outbreak In Recent History
Since September, the Empire State has recorded 167 cases of the measles, a highly infectious disease for which there is a widely available vaccine.

Fabregas left the pitch in tears after making his final appearance for Chelsea in last Saturday's FA Cup third round win over Nottingham Forest. "I'm here to help the team and I'm impatient to start. It is a quality squad with young players and a young coach", said Fabregas, referring to former France striker Henry. "We have a big game against Marseille on Sunday, I'm very excited".

The 31-year-old Fabregas struggled to earn regular first-team action with the Blues this season and had made just six appearances in the Premier League this season prior to his departure.

Chelsea said on their website: "We thank Cesc for his wonderful service and wish him the very best of luck for the next chapter in what has been a fantastic career".

Avoiding serious injury helped him to play around 650 club games and to score 121 goals - winning league titles with Barcelona and Chelsea and domestic Cup competitions with all three sides. On an global level, he won two European Championships (in 2008 and 2012) and was also part of the La Roja squad which won the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
