MLB rumors Giants interested in former Rockies infielder DJ LeMahieu

The Giants are reportedly already in the mix, listening to deals for 2B Joe Panik, and showing interest in free agent 2B DJ LeMahieu, according to multiple reports.

Following Thursday morning's news that the Nationals have reportedly agreed to a one-year, $9 million deal with former Dodgers second baseman Brian Dozier, the market for infielders is expected to heat up. The Giants were happy to bring him back through the arbitration process, but also realized that second base was one of the few spots where they could make substantial changes.

He is a career.298 hitter with a.350 on-base percentage.

SpaceX To Lay Off 10 Percent Of Its Workforce
The firings were related to disagreements over the pace at which the team was developing and testing its Starlink satellites . It reduced nine percent of its workforce, thus removing several thousand jobs across the company in cost reduction measures.

In addition to his defensive wizardry - LeMahieu has also thrice been named the Wilson Defensive Player of the Year - the 30-year-old is a two-time All-Star.

So the man who would be on the move is Panik, who recorded a.254 batting average, four home runs, and 24 RBI in 102 games this past season. He's only a year removed from a productive season at the plate, however, as he hit.288/.347/.421 with 10 long balls in 2017 before thumb and groin injuries hindered his playing time last season. That leaves LeMahieu as arguably the top free agent second baseman.

All in all, LeMahieu generally rates as an average or better overall hitter with premium defensive skills. Interestingly, the Giants are said to be pursuing LeMahieu.
