FINAL DESTINATION To Receive More Final Entries

Sixth installment of horror franchise 'Final Destination' in progress

Rebooting something like Saw would make sense as each film plays off of each other but this is going to be another entry in a successful franchise.

New Line has been making a killing in horror over recent years (and as "The House that Freddy Built" they're no stranger to the game) and I've been saying for a while that it was only a matter of time before they pulled the trigger on bringing the Final Destination franchise back.

Pictures and New Line Cinema are all set to work with "Saw" screenwriters, Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan to serve the sixth installment of "Final Destination" horror franchise. Melton and Dunstant most recently penned CBS Films' upcoming Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.

Plot details for the forthcoming installment have yet to be revealed.

Melton and Dunstan's script is supposedly being seen as a sixth entry in the series and not a hard reboot.

New Line is reviving its "Final Destination" franchise, which has been dormant since 2011, says reports. The film earned $112.8 million worldwide against a $23 million production budget.

The original premise of Final Destination features a young student by the name of Alex Browning. After getting him and his friends thrown off of the plane, the aircraft does, in fact, explode.

The gimmick - people escape certain death in an elaborate incident only to find the grim reaper picking them off one by one via increasingly OTT and gory accidents - was fairly ran into the ground by then, but it's been nearly a decade so it's time for a resurrection. So, to everyone whose intense fears of driving behind trucks carrying lumber, riding rollercoasters, using tanning beds, swimming too close to a pool vacuum, and being anywhere near a Buddha statue started because of Final Destination: get ready to match wits with the Grim Reaper once again.
