First Details on Slightly Mad Studios' New "Mad Box" Console Revealed

Racing game developer Slightly Mad Studios has chose to branch out into the console manufacturing industry with their upcoming Mad Box console.

As announced by the studio's CEO Ian Bell today over on Twitter, this new hardware will be called the Mad Box and will be "the most powerful console ever built". The Mad Box is planned to release worldwide and be competitively priced in comparison to other upcoming consoles. With the aim of supporting 4K, 60fps-per-eye VR and the support for a wide array of PC peripherals.

The sudden emergence of the tweets from a new account with some spectacular claims in them could easily be taken for some kind trolling attempt from someone masquerading as the CEO, but the tweets were backed up by the Slightly Mad Studios account. Bell says "We have multiple investors already offering the required funding for us to see the product to completion, but it's still early days and we're looking at the best offers right now".

Bell is also keen to assure players that Project CARS 3 will have its roots remain firmly in the simulation end of the racing game spectrum amid fear from fans that a watered down and more arcade-like experience would materialise.

Powerbanks for electric cars: Volkswagen announces mobile charging station
As of 2020, the charging station will also be implemented in other cities and communities, possibly in large-scale events as well. VW notes that these stations could also be used as smaller-scale buffers for storing solar or wind energy from nearby sources.

As for the games that'll be available on the Mad Box, Bell told Variety that the team plans to "allow games from all developers, old and new".

For developers, Bell says that Slightly Mad Studios won't be shelling out for exclusivity incentives since it's the company's belief that exclusives are exclusionary, but hopes that the availability of that entirely (but unnamed) free cross-platform engine mentioned before will encourage developers to consider bringing their games to the Mad Box. He also expects the Mad Box to release in "three years time".

Bell does seem confident with the upcoming system's potential.
