On Friday, the covers came off the 2020 Ford Police Interceptor Utility. The Blue Oval claims to have a lockdown of 65 percent of USA police vehicle sales using 2017 figures.

Police forces will have three powertrain options from which to choose. The engines are all mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive that offers various traction modes, including one for deep snow and sand. Ford says this model is 1.1 seconds faster to reach 60 miles per hour than the outgoing 3.7-liter model, and its fuel economy is 41% better with an estimated 24 mpg combined.

Ford said the Michigan State Police tested the new 2020 Interceptor Utility hybrid and found it to have the fastest 0-100 miles per hour acceleration, lap, and average lap times, as well as the highest top speed (137 miles per hour, speeders take note) compared to the other police utility competitors. If that's not good enough, you can opt for more power from the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 - which took top honors from the Michigan State Police after testing the competitive fleet of police utilities. Impressively, that included V-8-powered competitors. Sensors monitor the vehicle and if motion is detected outside the vehicle, it sounds a chime, turns on the rear camera, rolls up any open windows, and locks the doors. Ford is also making its suite of driver assist tech like pre-collision assist with emergency braking and Pedestrian Detection to help make everyone safer around the new Interceptor.

Man stabbed to death on London-bound train
One passenger said there was blood all over the carriage and it was clear the victim was in a very bad way following the attack. A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and a 27-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Inside, the Interceptor Utility is built to serve and protect, not coddle.

Other standard police vehicles include the Police Responder Hybrid Taurus, F-150 Police Responder, Expedition SSV, F-150 SSV, Transit PTV and the SSV Plug-In Hybrid Taurus. It features heavy-duty cloth front seats with reduced bolsters to ease entry and aid comfort while geared up. A vinyl rear seat and floor is available, as are anti-stab plates in the front seat backs. It'll handle an 8-inch curb impact and even ford 18-inches of water at 15 miles per hour or 10-inches of water at 40 miles per hour. The auto maker says the 2020 Police Interceptor Utility will be on the roads starting this summer.
