French director controversy over 'women aged 50' quip

Yann Moix's comments about older women have not gone down well on social media

Yann Moix's comments about older women have not gone down well on social media

A popular French author and television presenter has caused outrage after claiming he was "incapable" of loving a woman aged over 50.

A French author who said he was "incapable" of loving a woman over 50 and "preferred the bodies of younger women" has sparked an online furore, with women taking to Twitter to denounce the "old, sexist man". They are invisible. I prefer the bodies of young women, that is all.

Yann Moix, 50, offended many of his female compatriots when he ruled out falling in love with a woman of his own age. Full stop. The body of a 25-year-old woman is extraordinary.

While other users pointed out attractive women over 50, others said the women he ignored due to their age can breathe "a collective sigh of relief at the bullet they've dodged".

Another jokily asked: "Can women under 50 be invisible to you as well please?"

Elsewhere, some women over 50 posted images showing off their body confidence in protest.

‘We’ve got what we’ve got’: India series underlines Australia’s batting issues
After rain played spoilsport on the final day of the Sydney Test in the 4-match series, the match ended in a draw. The head coach of the Indian team, Ravi Shastri said, "I will tell you how satisfying this is for me".

French journalist Colombe Schneck, 52, posted a photo of her naked backside on Instagram.

His Marie Claire interview also drew criticism for statements he made regarding his preference for dating Asian women - which he specified as "Koreans, Chinese and Japanese" in particular.

Mr Moix's comments did not go unnoticed, earning the ire of women from France and overseas, who took to social media to let the author know the feeling might not be mutual. "Maybe that is sad for the women I go out with, but the Asian race is rich, large and infinite enough, that I do not feel embarrassed".

Moix later responded to the social media backlash in an interview with RTL, saying he's not responsible for who he likes and "I don't have to answer to the court of taste".

"When I am 60 years old, I will be able to; 50 will then appear young to me", he told the magazine. "They have something else to do than to get around a neurotic who writes and reads all day long".
