Github is Now Free and That’s Great

GitHub makes private repositories available for free

Microsoft announced a change in GitHub pricing today, and it's great for anyone learning to code. GitHub Free will now allow users working on projects with up to three collaborators to maintain unlimited private code repositories, it plans to announce later on Monday. Previously, private repositories were only available for those who shelled out $7 per month for a "Pro" account, or for free with a student account.

"Many developers want to use private repos to apply for a job, work on a side project, or try something out in private before releasing it publicly". GitHub Enterprise is meant to work in conjunction with GitHub Connect, the code biz's way to bridge the open source world and more guarded corporate development through identity, search, and contribution tracking systems. And if you were a regular user who isn't willing to pay $7 a month for private repositories, you wouldn't have any options than to pay for the subscription service. Private repositories are free so long as the repository has three collaborators or fewer. And truth is, most of the independent projects on GitHub are mostly personal projects that are either not fully developed or left behind by the developer. Now that people have the option to hide this behind a ideal shroud, will this harm GitHub's culture of shameless openness and candidness?

Rockets trade Michael-Carter Williams, cash to Bulls
Carter-Williams has since had stops in Milwaukee, Chicago and Charlotte, his role and production diminishing with each stop. The well-traveled Michael Carter Williams is on the move again, but he can't get comfortable in his new (old) home.

Overall these changes should help GitHub continue to develop a healthy ecosystem of users.

Public GitHub repositories will remain free as before. Those products include GitHub Enterprise Cloud, which gives businesses a private GitHub portal for their own use, and GitHub Enterprise Server, which lets customers run GitHub's software in their own servers for maximum control over their data.
