The search giant has confirmed that it is working on the new operating system that is supposed to power everything from smartphones to smart appliances and more. A new set of codes posted on Android's Gerrit source code management, it has been made clear that Fuchsia OS will have the ability to play Android apps. Based on what we know about it thus far, Fuchsia will be able to run on PCs, phones and tablets and could eventually supplant Android and Chrome OS. As reported by 9to5Google, the operating system will be running Android apps using Android Runtime (ART) platform, which is being used now to run Android apps in smartphones. That's what any kind of Android replacement should do, to make sure that Android users would be able to seamlessly switch to a Fuchsia device without worrying about losing access to their Android apps ecosystem.

The memo, spotted by 9to5Google, suggests that Fuchsia will use a special version of Android Runtime to enable Android apps, which means that users won't have to ditch the apps they've come to rely on when the update finally arrives. It looks like Google has now started the work of bringing millions of Android apps to Fuchsia OS and we can expect Google to officially talk about it at Google I\O later this year.

Cooperation best for both China and US, Xi tells Trump
Xi said next year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the USA and China. Chinese President Xi Jinping (left) and US President Donald Trump in Florida earlier this year.

The report notes that it's unclear how Fuchsia will use ART once it's installed on a device, but that's not something device users will have to worry about.

Google developers aren't exactly subtle when it comes to their goal here, aiming to "build ART for Fuchsia".
