Infiniti's QX Inspiration shows off new design language ahead of Detroit

Infiniti has released its first image of its Detroit Auto Show concept vehicle, and unsurprisingly, it's electric, and it's a crossover. This time it isn't hidden in shadows, allowing us to get a clear look at the SUV's striking, futuristic design.

First teased in December, the Infiniti QX Inspiration concept is a design study vehicle meant to represent the future of the Japanese automaker's design, specifically with regard to high-performance electric vehicles (EVs). Such is the case for the QX Inspiration concept, as its cabin was hand-crafted using traditional techniques and multiple materials inspired by what the automaker calls "a subtle Japanese sensuality".

Meanwhile, overall interior ambiance and technology follows the Japanese hospitality principle of "omotenashi", creating a "welcoming environment while assisting drivers and connecting occupants to the world around them".

As part of a reimagining of the brand, Infiniti is planning to have its entire range electrified from 2021 onwards, with every model available with either a fully electric or series hybrid drivetrain.

Without any sort of powertrain or range details to go on, not to mention the fact that this is purely a concept vehicle, we can't speak much to the "high-performance" or "complete range confidence" aspects.

When the QX Inspiration is revealed on stage in Detroit, it will be 30 years after the brand made its global debut at the same show.
