Investigators piece together what happened in 3 months of Jayme Closs' captivity

Churchgoers in a small northwestern Wisconsin town say their prayers were answered by the safe return of a 13-year-old girl almost three months after authorities say she was abducted during a home invasion that left her parents dead.

The grandfather of a 13-year-old northwestern Wisconsin girl says she's in "exceptionally good spirits" after being found almost three months after authorities say she was kidnapped during a home invasion that left her parents dead.

Neighbor Jeanne Nutter brought Closs to the Kasinskas' after she found the girl wandering in a daze on Thursday.

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald told reporters on Friday that Patterson took measures to avoid leaving evidence at the Closs family's home, including shaving his head before breaking in.

After officers arrived at the home and took Closs to safety, they told Kristin and her kids to get away from any windows in case the abductor came to the home. She approached a woman walking a dog and asked for her help. Nutter said Jayme did not have a coat or gloves. "Now I pray that she can handle this and get her life back together", Schoenecker added.

The suspect in the kidnapping of Jayme Closs, Jake Thomas Patterson, 21, is charged with one count of kidnapping. He was being held in Barron County's jail on preliminary charges of intentional homicide and kidnapping, and will have an initial court appearance Monday.

Authorities have said they don't believe Patterson crossed paths with Jayme's parents there.

The girl has been reunited with relatives, who shared pictures showing her smiling with her aunt and dog.

The same night authorities discovered Jayme missing three months ago, police found her parents James and Denise Closs shot dead in their home.

Jayme was taken to a hospital in Minnesota after she was found, her aunt, Sue Allard, said.

"It was great to know she was next to me all night", and "what a great feeling to have her home", Smith's post reads.

Patterson used to live at the cabin with his father and brother, but his dad transferred ownership to Superior Choice Credit Union on October 23 - eight days after the abduction. The sheriff added that he didn't know who owned the property. It appeared Patterson hid her from his friends and other people, the sheriff said without elaborating.

Fitzgerald said Saturday that investigators will try to determine, among other things, how Jayme escaped and the conditions in which she was held.

"Well, right now we're looking for 88 days of evidence", Fitzgerald said.

12 miles from the house, in the small town of Gordon, people don't know much about Patterson, but those who went to high school with him describe him with one word: quiet. "Did he buy food?"

"She was very calm", Peter said.
