Star Sixes Tempers Flair During England v Rep Of Ireland

The Star Sixes going on this weekend on Sky Sports carry about as much weight as tiddlywinks but those playing are former greats of the game and they wouldn't have got to where they made it to in their career without a competitive edge.

This opinion was bolstered again today as Ireland took on England in a fiesty affair that ended 1-0 to England, but not before Jason McAteer was sent off after a humorous scuffle with none other than Michael Owen.

Then Owen lashed out with a wild kick across McAteer's ankle and to be quite honest about it, you could hardly blame McAteer for giving him one back in response.

'The referee got it wrong, ' fumed 47-year-old McAteer.

The former Liverpool teammates tangled close to the end of the final group game between the Boys in Green and England, which the Three Lions won 1-0 thanks to a Paul Konchesky goal.

Pompeo's visit also comes at a time when USA troops are being pulled out of Syria on the directions of President Donald Trump. The State Department said Pompeo will visit eight countries in the region, starting with Jordan and ending in Kuwait.

But McAteer was still furious when interviewed by Sky Sports after his side's semi-final defeat.

We kind of made up a little bit and I gave him a little friendly little push up the backside and the referee chose to send me off. He didn't want to see it probably because it was England and Michael Owen, more to the point.

"We kind of made up a bit and I gave him a little friendly sort of push up the backside and the referee chose to [send me off]".

McAteer's red card was later rescinded, and he played down the minor flashpoint after the game, as did Owen.
