Following a stunning performance in the season opener against the Lions that seemed to suggest Sam Darnold and the Jets were poised to make a run at a potential playoff berth this season, blunder-filled losses to the Browns, Jaguars and Bills annihilated any real chance of NY evolving into a contender for the postseason. The Jets have hired first-time head coaches with their last five head-coaching hires.

The 2018 campaign was the last straw for NY coach Todd Bowles, who joined Miami Dolphins coach Adam Gase among those fired on "Black Monday".

The former Green Bay Packers head coach is expected to interview with the New York Jets for their head-coaching vacancy, a source informed of the situation told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.

Ali Abdelaziz: Khabib will ‘100 percent’ not fight Tony Ferguson next
Khabib Nurmagomedov's manager has spoken, and Tony Ferguson will apparently not be the next challenger to the Dagestani's throne. People think I'm insane but I think Khabib would beat his ass", Abdelaziz told TMZ. "Khabib is no quitter".

He's also known for his offensive background, having worked with quarterbacks Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers.

The Jets aren't the only team doing their due diligence on McCarthy. It shouldn't be surprising to see the Jets, with Sam Darnold on a rookie contract and showing great promise in 2018, sitting near the top of the list. However, Bowles may not be out of a job for very long. He led the Packers to the playoffs nine times. On the other hand, Johnson also said he'd "absolutely" consider hiring a college coach.

The Jets reportedly also requested an interview with Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell, but were turned down.
