James likely will miss at least three more games after being cleared to increase his on-court activity in his comeback from the injury, the Lakers announced Thursday after an evaluation by their medical staff. It also states that there will be an update provided on Wednesday, January 16.

Those are significant numbers: James never missed more than 13 games during any of his first 15 National Basketball Association seasons, and he never sat out for more than two full weeks during his decorated tenures with the Cavaliers or the Miami Heat.

As Heavy.com's Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson reported, his injury is more complex than originally thought.

While it's a positive update that James has been able to continue his on-court action, the update only provided a small amount of overall optimism. As Sam Amico of Amico Hoops revealed, the star forward will set a new career high for most consecutive games missed on Friday, as the previous high was eight.

There hasn't been much revealed in terms of what type of work James has gotten in, and there's been no clear-cut date set for a return.

The initial stretch of games with James on the sidelines was a rough one for the Lakers.

James, Irving, Kevin Love and the rest of the Cavaliers won the NBA championship in 2016, making history along the way by becoming the first team in Finals history to rally from a 3-1 deficit to win the crown, defeating the Golden State Warriors - winners of a record-setting 73 games during the regular season - in seven games, Irving hitting the deciding shot in Game 7 - a 3-pointer in the face of two-time NBA MVP Steph Curry. From that point on, they dropped five of their next six games entering the current week.

With the western conference already so stacked this season, the Lakers will be hoping that LeBron comes back to the team in another week or so.

Now, while Luke Walton did release a statement regarding LeBron's injury before the win against Pistons, last night, an official update from the Lakers' side was still pending and hence Lakers came up with an update right before the Utah game, one that LeBron is certain to miss.

Lakers have gone onto win just 3 off the 8 games that they have played without LeBron, and desperately need him for the second half of the season, as all teams will now make a real surge for a playoff berth.

While James, 34, could be in line to return in time for the Lakers' game against the Thunder, he will take a cautious approach and is prepared to be out multiple weeks if that's what it takes to return at 100 percent, a source familiar with James' thinking told ESPN.
