Nationals Rumors: Nats still in on Bryce Harper after December meeting

As the offseason continues, the White Sox have been linked to yet another rumor. This bit of information from Nightengale comes just two weeks after Machado attended meetings with the White Sox, Yankees, and Phillies in their respective cities. Along with those other three teams, the Phillies are known to be in on Machado and Harper.

"Reports of the White Sox offering ten plus years for Manny Machado or Bryce Harper are "Without any substance and flat out wrong" according to high ranking industry sources".

However, it was reported earlier that the Phillies and the White Sox are ready to spend big and give Machado and Harper their desired 10-year deals worth over $300 million. Bruce Levine of 670 The Score quickly responded by saying the Sox were unlikely to offer more than seven years to either player.

Machado has been mostly mum on the situation, but with a real offer on the table, there appears to be some progress toward reaching a decision. They put forth a legitimate effort to sign him.

US issues China travel advisory warning of 'exit bans'
China insists the detention of both men is not linked to Ms Meng's arrest, but many analysts believe it was a tit-for-tat action. Earlier on Thursday, China's top prosecutor said the two Canadians had "without a doubt" violated the law .

There's no guarantee Machado will indeed sign with Chicago, but it certainly is interesting it's the first team to formally offer the shortstop a contract. Notably, the New York Yankees have not made Harper a priority, while the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs don't appear to have the financial flexibility to make the record-breaking offer the superstar outfielder is seeking.

Now that Philly has secured the bullpen piece they have been looking for, they are expected to turn their full attention to both Harper and Machado. If the Sox can sign either player, expect a re-energized fanbase to be present at Soxfest at the end of this month.
