According to The Houston Chronicle, Mehmood admitted to police that he had killed his own children, and tried to kill his wife.

On Friday morning, Kimaria Nelson was identified as the woman who was shot in the head and survived, according to her father, who spoke to ABC13.

Mehmood later surrendered to authorities.

Stanton said Mehmood cooperated with detectives who interviewed him.

Mehmood appears to have three other children. Police provided no information on the incident that led to the assault charge. He is being held without bond. One child was 5 years old, another was 1 and the third was an infant. The children's mother was beaten and shot several times in the face and head with a high-powered pellet gun.

Mehmood, 27, was arrested 25 miles away from the apartment complex where the victims were found.

Junaid Hashim Mehmood, 27 has been charged with two counts of Capital Murder and Aggravated Asssault with a Deadly Weapon.

Police have said more charges were expected. In 2015, he was arrested after robbing a family member. He was also convicted a year earlier for assault causing bodily injury for striking a girlfriend - not Nelson - with his hand.

The terms of his sentence made it illegal for him to possess a firearm.

Nelson underwent surgery on Friday morning, ABC13 reported, and is now in stable condition.

Mehmood and Nelson shared an apartment, according to the police statement. Galveston County assistant district attorney Kevin Petroff said it was a misdemeanor warrant for providing alcohol to a minor. The woman was taken to the hospital. "Everybody involved is either deceased or injured", Texas City police spokesman Lt. Kenneth Brown said on Thursday during the height of the investigation.

Texas City police, along with Houston police and the Texas Rangers, are investigating the case.

Authorities picked Mehmood up near a Panera Bread restaurant in Clear Lake, Texas, shortly after the call, per ABC13.

Police believe the children are 5 years old, 2 years old and an infant.

Nelson was alive but unable to speak, police said. He lived in the apartment with them. The suspect's relationship to the children is unclear.

Authorities said they have not confirmed a motive in the attack but added they're reviewing a social media post by Mehmood indicating he had become enraged after being fired from his job.

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Mehmood turned himself in, and was "incoherent" and extremely emotional, saying at one point, "I killed my family", during a 911 call where he told police where he was.

Texas City is about 38 miles southeast of Houston, near Galveston Bay.
