Achrekar is best known for being his childhood coach and has always been acknowledged by the celebrated right-hander for the role he played in shaping his career as a child. Achrekar had been unwell for a while and had suffered a stroke in 2013, which reduced his mobility, reported ESPNcricinfo. Ramakant Achrekar was born in 1932 and shaped Sachin Tendulkar's cricketing career.

Achrekar served as a cricket coach on the Mumbai maidans for more than four three decades until he was paralysed in the late 1990s. He represented New Hind Sports Club and Young Maharashtra XI before later playing for Gul Mohar Mills and Bombay Port.

He featured in a solitary first-class game for State Bank of India against a Hyderabad Cricket Association XI in a Moin-ud-Dowlah Gold Cup match in 1960.

Tendulkar, along with Kambli and Amre, visited Achrekar's residence in Dadar and paid their respect.

Ashley Young to leave Manchester United at the end of the season?
This season, he mostly played in the right back position under Jose Mourinho and even interim boss Solskjaer has used him in that role.

Achrekar invested himself completely into Tendulkar's development, who he had spotted as the one to watch out for right in at the beginning.

But by Tendulkar's admission, acknowledgements would be scarce; "well played" are the words players get to hear often but the legendary batsman would not. "Like many of his students, I learnt my ABCD of cricket under Sir's guidance", Tendulkar said of his beloved coach-cum-mentor. His contribution to my life can not be captured in words.

A strict disciplinarian, Achrekar was livid during the then world record 664 run partnership in school cricket between Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli. "He built the foundation that I stand on", he said in a statement.
