Trump blasts FBI probe into whether he worked for Russia

A recent New York Times report alleging that President Donald Trump was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a potential national security threat as well as a Russian agent has sent shockwaves through the nation, but Secretary of State Mike Pompeo brushed it off as absurd.

Officials also told the Post that they never received a full, detailed account of Trump's meeting with Putin in Helsinki in July 2018.

"I couldn't care less", Trump said in an interview with Jeanine Pirro on Fox News on Saturday night.

"I think it's the most insulting thing I've ever been asked", Trump responded. 'I think it's the most insulting article I've ever had written'.

Trump has repeatedly denounced the Mueller investigation as a "witch hunt", denying any collusion with Russia's attempt to sway the 2016 election.

Trump's behavior in the days around Comey's May 2017 firing helped trigger the counterintelligence part of the probe, according to the newspaper.

There have already been concerns by special counsel Robert Mueller that Trump's firing of Comey constituted an act of obstruction of justice. The Times says it's unclear whether Mueller is still pursuing the counterintelligence angle.

Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., on Sunday defended President Donald Trump's reported subterfuge in concealing details of his private conversation with Russia's Vladimir Putin, saying the decision is wholly "up to him". Trump took possession of his interpreter's notes after a 2017 meeting in Hamburg and instructed the linguist not to discuss the matter with other administration officials, the Post said, citing current and former US officials.

Then-Secretary of State Rex Tillerson attended Mr. Trump's first official meeting with Putin, but the two presidents also spoke for up to an hour at dinner, a conversation the White House did not acknowledge for almost two weeks. Former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was present at this particular meeting, though he has not elaborated beyond a brief readout.

The House Republican would not further describe the contents of the Baker transcript but said it was clear, based on his direct questioning of Baker, that in May 2017 "FBI senior leadership could not accept Comey was sacked for cause and the president had the constitutional authority to terminate Comey". Little is known about what transpired behind closed doors.

"I'd like to get the notes of the meeting that the President had with Putin".

Even then, the president avoided directly answering when Pirro asked whether he now is or has ever worked for Russian Federation.

Mr Trump's relations with Russian Federation before his election in 2016 are the subject of an ongoing federal investigation. "I do it with all countries".

'I'm not going to talk about what we may have been briefed in "the Gang of Eight" when these investigations opened, but I do think it's curious that throughout that whole summer when these investigations started, you had Vladimir Putin policies nearly being parroted by Donald Trump, ' Warner said.

"Anybody could have listened to that meeting", he said.

The Post reported that the White House spokesperson added that the Trump administration "has imposed significant new sanctions in response to Russian malign activities".

"It's so ridiculous. These people make it up", Mr. Trump said, providing no evidence.

"Every time Trump meets with Putin, the country is told nothing".

"Here's the bottom line", the president said. Mr. Trump said he believed the Russian president, contradicting the conclusions of the US intelligence community.

"I think it was a great insult", he repeated.

Trump went on to assert that no president has taken a harder stance against Russian Federation than he has.
