Mesut Ozil: Unai Emery explains Arsenal star’s absence in West Ham loss

Unai Emery believes Arsenal are now too inconsistent to finish in the Premier League top four.

It was a pointed instruction to the club's board that, as far as Emery is concerned, the German is dispensable.

The defeat dented Arsenal's bid to break into the top four, with the Gunners still adrift of Chelsea - who face strugglers Newcastle at Stamford Bridge later Saturday - in the race for a Champions League place.

Emery has an agreement with Barcelona's Denis Suarez but the Catalan club are stalling over a loan deal as they want a commitment from Arsenal to buy the player in the summer, something the Londoners are refusing to do. Emery's trust in Ozil is now non-existent.

The 19-year old was the standout performer at the London Stadium as West Ham picked up an impressive victory over Arsenal as they continue their solid season under Manuel Pellegrini. This was despite the player mingling in the Arsenal dressing room for an hour before the game. A 2-1 win at Bournemouth in November was the only time Emery conceded the former Germany worldwide was left out for tactical reasons.

Nobel Prize-winning scientist stripped of last honorary titles over racist comments
He said the scientist's awareness of his surroundings were "very minimal" and rejected the notion he was a "bigot". Watson, Crick and another British scientist, Maurice Wilkins, won the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1962.

"I decided the idea of the players that I think are the best for this match", he said. I'm more pleased with the way we played.

Indeed, Ozil was not part of the 18-man squad for Arsenal's north London derby defeat to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup back in December, with Emery having insisted on that occasion that it was due to "tactical reasons".

He said: 'It is not about the two shots on target.

Along with many Irish football fans viewing this morning's papers, Brian Kerr couldn't but wonder whether the "big smiley head" on Declan Rice was good or bad news for Ireland's (potentially) hottest prospect. "This result makes that more hard". We need to take more confidence, more performance collectively, being competitive away to change this moment.
