Mobile is taking on phone scammers with new Caller Verified technology

T-Mobile Call Verified

T-Mobile Call Verified

Right now the feature is only available on the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 (you need the latest software update to use it), but T-Mobile says it'll come to more phones "later this year".

The technology, Caller Verified, uses the new STIR/SHAKEN standards to combat illegal caller ID spoofing, which can occur when scammers hijack a phone number to match the area code and 3-digit prefix of the person being targeted.

Earlier this week, T-Mobile - alongside Ericsson and Intel - achieved the world's first 5G data call and video call on 600 MHz, both on a live commercial network. That's why T-Mobile, today, announced a new tool to fight all the spam and give phone owners a little bit more peace of mind. However, the carrier promises it's going to expand the tool later this year. Call recipients on those phones will notice a Caller Verified identifier on the incoming call screen after T-Mobile confirms the authenticity of a caller, letting users know that the call is OK to pick up. It's not a call blocker, though, in case you were wondering.

Amazon is developing its own game streaming service
Reporters, however, have spotted job listings relevant to this effort, such as this one for a Lead Cross-Platform Game Engineer. Not content with having its fingers in almost every pie, Amazon seemingly wants a bigger slice of the gaming market.

Additionally, T-Mobile also announced that it's now the first wireless carrier in the industry that's equipped to meet the FCC's STIR (Secure Telephone Identity Revisited) and SHAKEN (Secure Handling of Asserted information using ToKENs) standards.

If you've got a Galaxy Note 9 and you're already a T-Mobile customer, that's it.

The service implements STIR (Secure Telephony Identity Revisited) and SHAKEN (Secure Handling of Asserted information using toKENs) standards, which the industry developed for this goal and has been promoted by the FCC for use right away. Once the technologies are adopted by other carriers, Caller Verified will work on calls made across most networks.
