Nepal batsman Rohit Paudel became the youngest male cricketer to score an worldwide fifty on Saturday at the age of 16 years and 146 days, breaking Sachin Tendulkar's previous mark.

However, South Africa Women's Johmari Logtenburg is youngest cricketer to score an global Test and ODI half-centuries as a 14-year-old.

Nepal batsman Rohit Paudel hit 55 off 58 balls against UAE, to become the youngest male player in history to bring up an global half-century.

At 16 years and 146 days, Paudel's effort broke the record previously held by Shahid Afridi, which the Pakistan allrounder set when making a century against Sri Lanka in Nairobi in 1999.

Paudel, however, some way off the overall record for all global cricket, with South Africa Women's Johmari Logtenburg having struck Test and ODI half-centuries as a 14-year-old.

Nepal are 0-1 down in the series but are in a good position to level things up courtesy of Paudel's rescue act, having come in at No.7 with the score at 113/5.

He made 55 from 58 balls, and shared in a fine stand worth 82 for the sixth wicket with Aarif Sheikh.

According to ICC, Paudel has always been touted as a future star of Nepalese cricket, having struck highly rated Indian speedster Kamlesh Nagarkoti for 24 runs in five balls in an U19 ODI in 2016.
