Tlaib's comment drew a huge round of applause from the MoveOn crowd, and the congresswomen doubled down on her call for impeaching Trump the following day when she tweeted, "I will always speak truth to power".

Al Jazeera's Andy Gallacher reports.

"How do you impeach a president who has won perhaps the greatest election of all time, done nothing wrong (no Collusion with Russian Federation, it was the Dems that Colluded), had the most successful first two years of any president, and is the most popular Republican in party history 93%?" he wrote on Twitter.

Democrats have also said they plan to prohibit members of Congress from settling sexual harassment lawsuits by using public money, as has been done in the past.

So much for Hillary Clinton's promise past year that "civility can start again" after Democrats take the House and/or Senate.

Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) said members were "aghast" at Tlaib, lamenting "a fever" among some colleagues to impeach Trump.

In a press conference following his meeting with congressional leaders from both parties, Trump says he brought up impeachment - a topic that is swirling in Washington - with Pelosi just a day after Democrats took control of the House.

Tlaib, however, has argued for impeachment proceedings to begin immediately. Her long list of Trump's alleged crimes includes "ordering the cruel and unconstitutional imprisonment of children and their families at the southern border", obstructing justice, and advocating illegal violence.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says that calling President Trump a "motherf-" is rhetorically no different than his day-to-day gripes about Democrats. The Virginia Democrat said she was elected because she talked about preserving health care.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said Ms Pelosi ought to make clear to Ms Tlaib that such language is unacceptable.

Democrats who support impeachment have argued that Mr Trump obstructed justice by firing former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, and that hush payments to at least two women made by his personal attorney during the presidential race violated campaign finance laws.
