President Donald Trump: SOTU Won't Happen Until After Shutdown Ends

The judgment of history "will not be kind".

Rep. Mo Brooks of Alabama said Pelosi's action "shows how radical and hyper-partisan the Democrats have become".

Pelosi's unmovable position on the issue, also forced Trump to postpone the State of the Union Address until the government reopens. If so, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) will put Trump's measure on the floor, the House measure to reopen the government and then, perhaps, the newest proposal or some variation. He did not detail his next move, saying: "We will be announcing what we're doing".

The message came in contrast to one White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders gave Wednesday morning when she told Fox News: "The President will talk to the American people on january 29 as he does nearly every single day".

Pelosi in her letter had cited the impacts of the ongoing shutdown on the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Secret Service, questioning whether they could secure the speech given that they have been operating without funding.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy accused Speaker Pelosi of "almost acting like a dictator" during his appearance on "Hannity" Wednesday night after the speaker cancelled President Donald Trump's State of the Union address earlier in the day. "I love hearing what presidents have to say, what priorities they set, how the theatrics of Congress applauding..."

"The American people want to hear the truth", Trump said.

Wednesday marked day 33 of the partial federal government shutdown.

Goodale said the country's official threat level remains at "medium", where it has stood since the autumn of 2014. While an attack was considered imminent, the officer said there was no credible threat to the people of Kingston.

But today President Trump threw down the gauntlet on Instagram, making public this letter to Nancy Pelosi.

Pelosi acted just hours after Trump notified her that he was planning to deliver the speech next Tuesday in line with her original invitation.

Pelosi's stiff-arm left the president looking for an alternative setting from which to address the nation.

"As the Shutdown was going on, Nancy Pelosi asked me to give the State of the Union Address". Conway spoke out against Fox News chief White House correspondent John Roberts for calling President Donald Trump's exchange with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi "vicious" regarding the State of the Union.

"You have heard from the air traffic controllers, pilots and flight attendants that we have a growing concern for safety and security". Trump told Moore in the phone call Monday evening, which lasted for about 10 minutes, that his staff was still determining where the address would be delivered. Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said the agencies were prepared to support the speech.

At the same time, the White House is continuing to work on contingency plans to give Trump a back-up in case the joint-session plans fall through.

He might have delivered the speech from the White House or from one of the several state capitols where he has been invited.

"Undergirding all of this is that it's up to the Speaker of the House and up to both chambers to pass a resolution inviting the other branch of government to come into Congress", Weigel said.
