Visiting Xiaomi's teaser webpage for the new Redmi phone also says "new independent brand", which only means Redmi will spin off into a separate brand like Huawei's Honor and Oppo's Realme. The image also showed the presence of dual LED flash. The Chinese smartphone brand has no intention of slipping away from the spotlight as it has confirmed the first big launch of 2019. Today at 10 AM, the company confirmed that it will be holding a media event on January 10 to announce a new Redmi phone. However, there are other rumors that point to Redmi Pro 2 smartphone, which will be the successor the original Redmi Pro. The company has opened reservations for this upcoming Redmi phone on the China site. The Redmi Pro 2 will be first Redmi device from Xiaomi to sport such camera configurations.

Leaked posters that surfaced before hinted that the Redmi Pro 2 could be powered by a Snapdragon 675 SoC made on 11nm process. Redmi Pro was a high-end variant in the Redmi series, though it was limited to the China market and did not launch in India. The series has helped Xiaomi soar to the top spot on the country's phone brand leaderboard.
