Xiaomi, which officially started selling its phones in Kenya in late 2018 already has another sub-brand - POCO, which is now served by one device: the POCOPHONE F1 that is also available in Kenya if you look for it in some online stores (the stock brought in by Xiaomi was depleted).

Xiaomi is not the first company to make a separate venture for a brand which focuses on budget and affordable smartphone. With this strategy, the company will be able to focus more on the Redmi series to make better products in the upcoming days.

Xiaomi kicked off 2019 with a big announcement - making Redmi an independent sub-brand. Later on, company CEO Lei Jun explained that the goal is focus: Xiaomi will maintain its high-end flagship Mi line-up, while Redmi will be tailored to value-for-money budget devices which are mostly sold through e-commerce sites.

Mobile phone enthusiasts may have noted that some Android phone manufacturers have pushed the sub-brand agenda so well it has actually paid off in the long run.

The Redmi and Redmi Note smartphones have been among the brand's most popular budget smartphones.

Xiaomi grew to a new high on the back of its successful Redmi 5A and Redmi Note 5 Pro series and refreshed Redmi 6/A/Pro portfolio, added the IDC report.

Thanks to its robust sales in India and Europe, Xiaomi reported a 49.1 per cent year-on-year increase in revenue for its third quarter of 2018 as net profit reached 2.48 billion yuan ($357.23 million).
