Gray was 15-16 with a 4.52 ERA overall for NY, which acquired him from Oakland in July 2017. Capped off by his first All-Star Game selection, Gray ended 2015 as one of the best in baseball.

The Yankees traded the disappointing right-hander to the Cincinnati Reds on Monday, in what ultimately became a three-team trade involving the Seattle Mariners.

Whether "It's Always Sonny in New York" to "WGRAY in Cincinnati", the Sonny Gray show in the Big Apple has officially been canceled.

The hype surrounding the Yankees going into 2018 was an all-time high, as they were projected to reach and win the World Series with their offseason additions.

Dealing Gray is another excellent move by the Yankees, putting themselves in prime position to absorb an ace type pitcher.

Phehlukwayo had successfully reviewed an on-field lbw dismissal and survived a dropped catch in the over before the incident. South Africa won the toss and made a decision to bowl in the second one-day global against Pakistan at Kingsmead on Tuesday.

Sanmartin, 22, walked just four batters while striking out 58 in 67.1 innings for four Yankees minor-league teams last season.

His struggles as a starter culminated in August when he was demoted to the bullpen for the remainder of the season. He rebounded in 2017, pitching to a 3.55 ERA before being shipped to the Yankees in a big-time trade. As the Yankees would eventually lose to the Boston Red Sox in the ALDS 3-1, Gray was entering the offseason unsure of where he would pitch come 2019. If the Reds are going to send a draft pick and their seventh best prospect who could be Major League Baseball ready as early as next season, they want a longer commitment from Gray, so they are trying to negotiate an extension. Gray and the Yankees settled on a $7.5 million, one-year contract on January 11 that avoided salary arbitration. The reported $30 million extension the Reds gave Gray over the next three years is a discount - if Sonny can keep the clouds away. The Reds and Yankees are in agreement with their negotiation.but now the Reds want to negotiate with Gray.

While Gray comes in as a troubled pitcher to a hitter-friendly ballpark, he joins a young staff looking to make some waves.

Coming off a last-place finish in the NL Central, the Reds have now added Gray, Tanner Roark, and Alex Wood to their rotation in offseason trades.

The Yankees course corrected and admitted fault with the Gray signing while the Reds are hoping they can restart Gray's career, something risky but I believe is a safe bet. It's worth noting that, with the Reds, Gray will be reunited with pitching coach Derek Johnson, whom he flourished under as an amateur at Vanderbilt University. If he can figure things out in 2019, the Reds should have a fairly respectable rotation. Look for the Reds to continue acquiring other pieces as spring looms in the distance.
