White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders told Fox News on Wednesday that she knew "the deputy attorney general has always planned to roughly stay around two years".

The White House cast Rosenstein's departure as his choice.

He also said that Barr's memo was "his opinion of the slippery slope of obstruction of justice charges against a president who wants to terminate a political appointee".

There is no indication that Rosenstein, who has been deputy for nearly two years, was forced out.

Also on rt.com Rosenstein hasn't been fired - yet.

Rosenstein had been overseeing the day-to-day operations of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election and contacts with the Trump campaign. At the earliest, Barr's confirmation vote would take place in mid-February.

Barr's confirmation as attorney general ― a position now occupied on an acting basis by Matthew Whitaker following the forced resignation of Jeff Sessions ― would ensure a smooth transition, the person said. Despite the rumors, Rosenstein held onto his job.

It was supposed to be the ideal political portrait - the smiling family man prime minister with his beaming wife and kids. It was also pointed out by another user, Andre Serna, that the shoe on Mr Morrison's right foot was actually a left shoe.

"I asked Mr. Barr directly do you think Bob, Mr. Mueller's on a witch hunt?"

Last year, the White House expressed alarm over the warrant to spy on Page, saying it "raises serious concerns about the integrity of decisions made at the highest levels of the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to use the government's most intrusive surveillance tools against American citizens".

Rosenstein will stay on to ensure a smooth transition with Barr, an official told Reuters news agency, adding that he saw his job as deputy as a two-year stint and is not being forced out. "My guess is that he is making room for the new attorney general to build a team that he wants around him".

In this June 21, 2017, file photo, former FBI Director Robert Mueller, the special counsel probing Russian interference in the 2016 election, departs Capitol Hill following a closed door meeting in Washington. The appointment followed the recusal of Sessions because of his work on the Trump campaign and Trump's firing of former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey.

After an embattled turn in that role, Sessions stepped down at the end of past year and was replaced temporarily by Matthew Whitaker as Acting Attorney General. Barr said he would go through the process of determining whether the Mueller report could be shared with Congress and the public when the report is finished, according to Graham.

Sen. Graham, the incoming chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said that Barr would interfere with Mueller's investigation.
