Thomas is no stranger to making history.

When Sarah Thomas takes to the field as a down judge during the AFC divisional round game between the Los Angeles Chargers and the New England Patriots, she will be making history as the first woman to officiate in an National Football League playoff game.

Not only is Thomas's presence on the gridiron notable. The title of her position was recently changed from "head linesman" to "down judge" by Senior VP of NFL Officiating Al Riveron to be more inclusive. But she stressed that her focus was on "being the best official I can be".

Thomas's career has been an ongoing blitz against sexism in the NFL. She had already become the first woman to officiate a major college football game, the first to officiate in a Big Ten Conference stadium, and the first to officiate a bowl game.

Myanmar Reuters journalists lose appeal against seven-year sentence
Wa Lone's wife Pan Ei Mon - who has given birth to a baby girl since her husband was put behind bars - was similarly despondent. Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo were found guilty last fall of violating the Myanmar's colonial-era Official Secrets Act.

And in another move for equality, Terri Valentini, the NFL's first female instant replay official, is scheduled to work the Indianapolis Colts-Kansas City Chiefs Divisional matchup on Saturday in Kansas City.

Making history is nothing new for Thomas.

DETROIT, MI - DECEMBER 11: NFL Line Judge Sarah Thomas walks on the field prior to the start of the game between the Detroit Lions and the Chicago Bears at Ford Field on December 11, 2016 in Detroit, Michigan.

According to NBC Sports, Thomas has been an NFL official since 2015 and is now in her fourth season in the league. "Field presence is what they talk about", she said in an interview with SB Nation.
